“After I transferred from my junior college, I knew I wanted to have a career in professional sports after I graduate,” says Ryan Jones, ‘08. “I chose to attend Saint Leo over other schools because of the amount of opportunities that SLU and the area offer.”

Ryan had several criteria when selecting a college. “One factor was whether or not the institution was nationally accredited in my major. Another factor was the location of the institution. I wanted to go to a school where I would have the opportunity to work for an organization in my major during school and hopefully, after I graduate.”

“During my first year at Saint Leo, I worked for the Sports Information Department. My experience working with the S.I.D. really helped me get an idea of what exactly an S.I.D. does day in and day out. The job was beneficial for me because it gave me the opportunity to work in my major.”

“Saint Leo offers a number of great benefits including small class sizes, great opportunities and instructors that are willing to help their students succeed. The most important things I have gained from my time at Saint Leo are the connections that I have been able to develop with my classmates and my instructors. Once I got into my major, I knew my classmates were going to be the ones that are not only going to apply for the same jobs that I want, but they could also be the ones that help me get the job that I want. Having friends in the sport business industry is great to have because the field is so competitive. Because the class sizes are small at Saint Leo, my instructors are more than willing to discuss the concepts that they have learned throughout their careers.”

Ryan plans to pursue a career in professional sports and is currently interning for the Brevard County Manatees. “If I choose to continue my goal of having a career in professional baseball, I hopefully will have the opportunity to work for one of the Minor or Major League Baseball teams in the state.”
